Parade encourages all red-heads to participate on Sunday, March 13. Any tinge of ginge will do!
TORONTO, Feb. 22, 2016 /CNW/ - The Toronto St. Patrick's Day Parade is recruiting red-headed participants for the inaugural "Ginger March," which will take place as part of the 29th Annual Toronto St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday, March 13.
"Red hair occurs naturally in only 1-2% of the population. This is a chance for those who have won the genetic lottery to come together and celebrate. But we're not discriminating. No matter how it is achieved, whether it's with dye or a wig – and facial hair counts too – anyone who is there to celebrate ravishing red hair is welcome," Shaun Ruddy from the St. Patrick's Parade executive committee who is organizing the Ginger March. "After our march on Sunday, March 13, I think people are going to rethink that old adage that 'blondes have more fun!'"
Anyone with red-hair can register to march on Sunday, March 13, by contacting the Toronto St. Patrick's Day Parade at marketing@stpatrickstoronto.com. There is no charge to participate.
On Sunday March 13, the Ginger March will assemble at 10:30 a.m. at St. George Street and Hoskin Avenue. The "gingers" will march along St. Patrick himself as the closing act of the 29th Annual Toronto St. Patrick's Day Parade.
Toronto Paramedics Association St. Patrick's Day Parade Food Drive
Participants in the Ginger March are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Toronto Paramedics Association St. Patrick's Day Parade Food Drive. This is the third year Toronto Paramedic will march the parade route collecting donations of non-perishable food items and cash to support the Daily Bread Foodbank. This year, they have set a goal to collect 5,000 lbs of food to support the Daily Bread Foodbank.
About the 2016 Toronto St. Patrick's Day Parade
The 2016 Toronto St. Patrick's Day Parade will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 13. The procession starts at Bloor and St. George (near old U of T Varsity Stadium), then continues along Bloor Street, down Yonge and finishes on Queen Street at Nathan Phillips Square. This year's parade will feature more than 100 marching sections, bands and floats. The Grand Marshalls for the 2016 parade are Sid Ryan, past president of the Ontario Federation of Labour, and Pat Sheridan, LiUNA 183 executive board member.
The Toronto St. Patrick's Day Parade is a celebration of St. Patrick, Ireland and Canada, which incorporates Toronto's various cultural groups. It's a celebration of both Ireland and Toronto's Irish community, and of the diversity that makes Toronto great. The annual parade draws approximately 500,000 spectators to the parade route. It will be broadcast live on CP24.
